Heartsford itself matters a lot. It is small, friendly, and a little too interested in everybody else's business, which makes it a very good town for amateur sleuthing. There is usually a sister, cousin, friend, or dog somewhere nearby, which helps keep the tone warm even when the crimes themselves get serious.

The later books deepen that mix. In A Crafter Hooks a Killer, the murder of visiting crochet author Jane Johnson opens up questions about Kate's death, so the series carries more than a one-book puzzle. By A Crafter Quilts a Crime, the town is in full winter mode, with the Fire & Ice festival and a live mannequin contest turning deadly when local quilter Wanda Wadsworth is found murdered. Those bigger community events give the books energy while keeping Sammy tied to the place she chose to rebuild her life.

If you like cozies that feel lived in, this is a comfortable place to settle. The books are full of small-town gossip, creative projects, recurring friendships, and a gentle romantic thread with Liam, but they never forget the puzzle. Start with A Crafter Knits a Clue if you want the full arc, because watching Sammy grow into her new life in Heartsford is a big part of the charm.
